The Monroe County Drug Task Force busted a major drug trafficking ring this past weekend on the East Stroudsburg University campus.
Police arrested eight people, six of which are current students at East Stroudsburg University.
Police, along with the Monroe County Drug Force, carried out a search warrant for the apartment of M. Eugene Pavitt, an ESU junior, who is currently residing in Marshalls Creek, on Friday, November 13. Police found nearly a pound and half of marijuana, estimated at more than $9,000, about $1,200 in cash, several handguns, a shotgun, and an assault rifle.
Pavitt, according to police, has been tagged as the ringleader of the operation, which includes the five other ESU students and two non-students. The five other ESU students involved with selling were Eric Marinelli, Kyle Keefe, Robert Bonikowski, Blair Gower, Pavitt and Andrew Nowicki.
All eight people have been charged with felony charges of drug distribution on the campus of ESU. Pavitt was taken into custody and is currently at the Monroe County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail.
A hearing is scheduled for the end of this week, while students of East Stroudsburg University can possibly have to deal with administrative hearings through the university to determine other sanctions, coupled with possible criminal punishment.
