When was the last time a well-known, made artist or musician emerged from the Poconos? Honestly, I couldn’t tell you, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of talented individuals trying to get noticed.
The local Stroudsburg community has always been willing to help local artists. Recently, the community has experienced a wave of support for our local talent through small businesses.
Dreamland Creations is one of the businesses showing support.
Located on Main Street in Stroudsburg, Dreamland Creations is currently holding monthly art shows. Dreamland has welcomed all artists and mediums to participate in the shows. Photography, collage and poetry are just a few of the mediums being accepted. Each monthly show has a different theme. March, for example, is the Landscape Show, and May is the Pet’s Show. For more information, contact Dreamland Creations at 570.421.6313.
Front Row, Teddy’s and East Café are just some of the local bars and restaurants that give musicians a voice, a chance and a stage on which to perform.
Local business owner Sean “Soulo” Fodness answered my questions about his recording studio and its participation in support of local talent. Fodness insists that his willingness to stay active within the local community is sincere, and he encourages artists to come and check out the studio.
“As an artist myself, I understand the need to find ways to put yourself out there,” said Fodness. “My business offers artists the opportunity to move forward in their careers, and I’d like to give them a chance to prove their talents.”
Fodness is the owner and producer at Audio Illusions Studios in Stroudsburg. Fodness received an education in audio engineering at The New School in Manhattan, New York. He encourages interested artists to check out his website at www.audioillusionstudios.com or to email him at sean@audioillusionstudios.com.
When asked when another show would take place, Fodness said, “We recently had a show at East Café with Audio Illusions recording artists Wellz and Stakks. Other artists were also present to perform. Next month, we’re hoping to do another show and get some more artists involved. This is a great opportunity for artists to gain exposure and opportunity.”
There are a number of performing opportunities that are already in place. Events at the Sherman Theater and East Café allow artists to have opportunities to gain exposure by having their music heard.
Audio Illusions offers a student discount with a valid student ID. Fodness encourages artists to come to the studio: “Feel free to stop by and check out the studio.”
