In celebration of Woman's History Month at ESU, the 10th annual presentation of the Vagina Monologues were held at Abeloff Center for Performing Arts on Friday.
The stage was set with three podiums, three microphones, a large sign that read "cunt" (along with other terms for the word vagina) and a banner of thongs.
Written by Eve Ensler, the monologues are based on interviews with a diverse group of hundreds of women. The monologues were all about - you guessed it – vaginas.
Some of the monologues featured in the show were My Angry Vagina, The Little Coochie Snorcher That Could, Reclaiming Cunt and Because He Liked to Look At It.
The show was directed by junior english major Emily Burger and was sponsored by the ESU's Women for Awareness Student Club and the ESU Women's Center.
The interviews expressed in monologues covered all areas concerning women's vaginas. Some of these areas included: masturbation, menstruation, birth, love, rape, sex, orgasm and other terms for the word vagina.
Though the monologues are directed towards women, there were a surprisingly strong number of men who came to see the show. "I came with my girlfriend," said Nick Touhy, "I'm glad that I came. I learned a thing or two about vaginas."
Some of the topics were sensitive and serious, other's were hilarious and breath-taking. What made these monologues so unique were the topics that were discussed. Ensler took topics that most women don't feel comfortable talking about, and made a production out of it. "The students and staff put on a really moving performance," said junior Allison Snyder, "I almost peed myself laughing at one point."
Ticket sales will benefit the Women's Resources of Monroe County and will go towards the cause of ending violence against women.
