Jock and Jill's opens as a Warrior friendly bar.

Warriors might find a new home at Jock and Jill’s Sports Bar & Grille on Main Street. The bar formally known as Front Row has a new look and a new name. New co-owner Barry Lynch said they are trying to make Jock and Jill’s student-friendly, as it has been self- proclaimed “The Home of the Warriors.”

There are many bars on Main Street but none have ever been devoted to the students at ESU. “This is their bar,” Lynch said.  The new design of the bar provides a warm, welcoming environment. Ever since the new owners have taken over, smoking has been banned, and the old bars and tables have been replaced with more up-to-date furnishings.

“The plan was to have a place where students can come and have a good time with each other,” Lynch said. “I think we have accomplished that, and we are exited about it.”

Towards the back of the bar, the walls are painted with the ESU logo and a depiction of every sport played at ESU. Allison Mosher, who graduated from the art department last year, is the artist responsible for the paintings.  “When you see the art on the wall, you get the feeling that you are in a college town,” said customer Lance Morgan.

A new pool table was added, surrounded by a bar for people to sit and watch. Behind the wall with the ESU logo, Lynch plans on adding a game room and some dart boards.  “Everything we have done here is in support of the kids,” Lynch said.

Another plan in the works is to hang ESU sports memorabilia all around the bar. Some of this memorabilia might include vintage jerseys and old sports equipment. Lynch added that if an ESU team wins a championship, they will honor that with some kind of sign or a plaque.

Lynch said they are open to supporting any fundraiser the sport teams at ESU are having. They are currently a sponsor of “dollars for doubles” for the baseball team.  “I think it would be nice to have some kind of poster with the running total of how much money they have raised so far,” Lynch said.

When the bar was still Front Row, one of the features that attracted students were the drink specials they had every night of week. Lynch says Jock and Jill’s will continue with the specials and even add some more.

New bathrooms are expected to be installed within the next month. Lynch said that is one part of the renovation project they have put off. Before they can have their official grand opening, he wants to have the new bathrooms ready to go.

Last Friday night, Lynch walked around the crowed bar and talked to some of the students.  “I think they are a great bunch of kids,” he said. “I want them to respect the place, and have a great time.”
