Editor's View: Done for the Semester

Natalia Salgado

Issue date: 4/24/03 Section: Opinion
So I was told since this was the last issue that I should be the one to write the editorial especially since I have been trying to avoid doing it all semester.

So as I brainstormed I realized I could go two possible ways with this. First, I could go ridiculously negative and begin ranting and raving about how everything that could go wrong did or second, like a ray of sunshine I could tell everyone the joys of being editor-in chief. Normally the extremist, I surprised myself by taking a little from column A and column B.

First and foremost I want to begin by saying that this job has taught me more than I ever thought it would (that's from column B). I still remember Cheryl (last editor in chief) asking me last semester if I were interested to take her position. Internally I laughed thinking, " You would have to be some type of moron to want to do this job", though outwardly I answered with a polite, "No."

I don't know what kind of hypnotic powers that girl had but by the end of the semester I had agreed. Walking into this office on January was, well, scary to say the least. I wasn't too sure if I was going to enjoy making this office with the leaky ceiling and disgustingly bright lights into my second home but somehow along the way it happened (I'm still waiting for permission from Student Senate to install a shower or at least convert the black room into a Starbucks). I found myself, almost everyday, even if I was headed somewhere else, in front of this office. At that point I considered serious help.

I've learned that almost every problem, no matter how large or life threatening (just kidding), has a solution. Somehow, someway things always manage to come together. I even, despite all the complaining, learned to love doing it. Maybe this wasn't my first choice but I have definitely grown into it.

Yeah, I hate the Mac computers, that enormous monster of a printer that only works one out of ten times, blank spaces on pages that were supposed to be filled but never were or articles that were supposed to come but never did (this is from column A) . But I honestly can say that the good things out weigh the bad.
