Do you have an aspiring career in writing for daytime dramas? Well, Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc. is sponsoring its third story writing contest for college students.
This contest is for any full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled in a writing course this semester as of September 2004. For those of you who are interested (either individuals or a team) in entering this contest you will need to write a long-term story document featuring characters currently on one of the Procter & Gamble shows, such as As the World Turns and Guiding Light.
Contest winners will be awarded with a trip to New York to meet with the writers, producers, and program executives of CBS' As the World Turns and Guiding Light.
According to Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin, executive-in-Charge of Production, she says that the best soap opera stories are usually romantic. They often focus on a female protagonist pursuing her dreams and goals while overcoming huge obstacles. The protagonist's pursuit of her goal is dramatized with a number of plot twists, turns and surprises that take place over many months.
If you are interested in this college writing contest then you may request contest information and an entry packet by October 1, 2004. Entry registration forms must be returned by October 14, 2004. Writing Contest entries must be submitted by November 12, 2004.
One winner for each show will be selected and notified no later than December 17, 2004. Entries will be judged on creativity, dramatic conflict, plot, structure, romance and audience appeal by executives at Procter & Gamble Productions and As the World Turns and Guiding Light.
This contest has successfully had over six-hundred applicants and in-fact, one previous winner, Kimberly Hamilton, is now a member of the Guiding Light writing team. "It can be a great opportunity for students to combine their love of soap opera while testing their writing skills." states Dwyer-Dobbin.
To receive an informational packet you should send a postcard including your name, address, phone number and email address to Amy Miltenberger, Procter & Gamble Productions, 825 Eighth Avenue, 35th Floor, New York, NY 10019.
You can also email your information to pgpcollegewritingchallenge@televest.com, or call 1-866-789-9186.
Good luck to all who participate in this college writing challenge. You could be the next Kimberly Hamilton!
