MtvU, the 24 hour college network, is launching its first annual "mtvU Woodie Awards". MtvU broadcasts to over 700 colleges across the country with a combined enrollment of 6 million. It is the largest, most widespread television network just for college students. MtvU can be seen all over, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the dining areas, fitness centers, student lounges and dorm rooms of campuses throughout the U.S.

MtvU wants to pay a tribute to the artists and music that made an impact on the college music scene over the last year. The winners will be awarded with an award made of wood. Not gold or platinum, but yes, wood! These special "wood awards" were designed and hand crafted by college students all over the U.S. "...The days of measuring an artist's success by the number of albums it sells are long dead," says the mtvU site. "The indie music scene's known it forever - so it found a better way to commemorate indie success: An award made of genuine wood."

MtvU wants to invite all college students around the country to vote for the first annual Woodie Awards and also be invited to vote during various mtvU on-campus events held at colleges and universities this fall. Nominated artists will be profiled on air throughout the voting period and on mtvU music series such as "The Deans List." A special "Woodies Week" will reveal the winners of the Woodie Awards on-air in early November.

Voting for the artists is live now on mtvU.com until October 15th or you can also cast your vote by calling 1-877-VOTE-MTVU. The vote is in your hands!
