I believe the use of marijuana should be legal for medical purposes and possibly casual use. They say they do not make it legal because it messes with your perceptions, possibly making your reaction time slower. There are a few benefits to marijuana though.
Marijuana causes the so-called "munchies" and for cancer patients who cannot eat because loss of appetite, marijuana would help them eat and their life would be a little longer. By refusing cancer patients marijuana we are pretty much telling them they have to die sooner than expected.
I believe marijuana can also be beneficial for people who have epilepsy. Although an experiment cannot be done because marijuana is illegal one should be done. I know someone who had epilepsy for years and as soon as they started smoking marijuana the seizures went away.
Well the government may say this is a coincidence, but the government is crazy then. Now this person does not smoke marijuana anymore and their symptoms are still gone. I believe marijuana fixed these problems.
Now the government says marijuana disrupts our perception and reaction time and thus people are not safe using it. Alcohol does the same thing, but it is legal. The reason the government has this thing against marijuana is because the revenues from fines made for the possession of marijuana is very high.
A statistic says, "71 million Americans over the age of 12 had tried marijuana as of 1998, which is more than 25 percent of the national population." All I am saying is if alcohol is legal marijuana should not be an exception. It's not a very harmful drug, but like alcohol people should not be able to drive or work under the influence of marijuana without being fined. It takes over.
A commendable study from the government concluded with this statement, "there has never been a death recorded from the use of marijuana by natural causes. Unlike opiates, barbiturates or amphetamines, there seems to be little risk from the use of large amounts of marijuana." Not to mention it takes some extremely high amount like 1,000 or 2,000 joints to kill someone. Alcohol and cigarettes are more harmful then marijuana when it comes down to true facts.
What it pretty much comes down to is that the government is stubborn and it wants to make mucho dollars from marijuana violations. Well the government can look for a new way to make money for violations. The government seems good at adding additional laws on people every month. In conclusion, I believe marijuana should be legalized and the government should stop making stupid laws.
