The Date Out Movie- Sherlock Holmes (2009)
When I first heard that Robert Downey Jr. would play the eccentric detective Sherlock Holmes, I thought he was a bad choice due to Robert Downey Jr. being an exaggerated type of actor. I was proven wrong by this movie. Robert respects the character by not giving an over the top performance, but rather uses his own quirky personality to improve the characterization. Sherlock Holmes is presented as a brilliant but distracted detective who must rely on his partner and friend Dr. John Watson. I was extraordinarily pleased with how Jude Law played Watson because he gives the character the respect I always wanted Watson to have. Watson in this movie is not just Holmes’ shadow, but the rational friend who keeps the brilliant Holmes from slipping into insanity. The movie itself has plenty of twists and turns, including a plot to run Parliament with the aid of magic and sexual tension between Holmes and the mysterious Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams). There are plenty of fights, chases, and dry humor. In the end, Sherlock Holmes will please any couple looking for some Victorian drama.
The Date In Movie- The Third Man (1949)
In this brilliant film noir, Holly Martins (Joseph Cotton) comes to Vienna to find his friend Harry Lime (Orson Welles), who people say has mysteriously been killed. Holly wants answers, and he’ll stop at nothing to find out what happened to his friend, putting his life at risk, as well as the life of Lime’s old lover Anna Schmidt (Alida Valli). However, Holly discovers that sometimes, things are better left a mystery. He discovers the dark side of his old friend’s life. There seems to be a shadow in every scene of this movie, showing how film noir still unsettles the viewer ov. The music score features a beautiful zither arrangement, making viewers feel like they are actually in Vienna. Overall, this movie will make viewers question the value of friendship and love.
