Men's and Women's track and field move on to 2010 PSAC Championships with high hopes

East Stroudsburg University men and women’s track and field showed what they were made of this past weekend at the Keough Invitational at Haverford College.

Senior Trina Carito came out on top with wins in the triple jump, finished third in the 55m hurdles and high jump, and was on the winning 4x400m relay team including senior Emily Hollick, freshman Lauren Ventrella and junior Jasmine Johnson. Carito had a season best in the triple jump with 35-8 3/4.

Ventrella won the 55m dash in 7.39 seconds and is also a NCAA provisional qualifier along with senior Janelle Smith.

In the 4x200 relay team of freshman Tara Getz, Johnson, freshman Lauren Hanna and Ventrella finished third with a season best of 1:46.89.

Adrienne Dieter finished fifth in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.54 followed by Anna Bixler in eighth with 9.77. Getz finished fourth in the 400m with a time of 1:01.31.

Smith won first place in the high jump, with second place going to sophomore Devyn Emerich, Carito in third and Hollick in fourth, all with a height of 5-4 1/4.

On the men’s team junior Asher Ashfield took second in the 55m Dash with 6.59, along with senior Drew Miller taking twelfth.
In the 200m freshmen Jesus Maldonado took third with a time of 23.18. Freshman Mike Saparito won fourth place for the Warriors in the 800m with a time of 1:57.77.

In the mile, Frank Fezza took fifth with a time of 4:15.59 and Chris Zadroga took fourth in the 3000m.

Freshman Corey Young and Kyle Soden took first and second in the 55m hurdles with times of 7.93 and 7.94 respectively.
In the 4x200m relay, freshman Maldonado, juniors Ian Melhorn, Negus Graham, and freshman Soden took first with a time of 1:29.63.
The warriors’ also took second place with the team of Ashfield, Young, junior Greg Pammer, and senior Chris Reddick with a time of 1:30.85.

ESU also took first in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:18.25. The team included Reddick, Melhorn, Pammer, and Graham. Saparito, Young, Fezza and Brandon Hillman took third place in this event with a time of 3:30.61.

The Warriors also took first place was also taken in the triple jump by Miller, the high jump by Soden and the pole vault by senior Matthew Gallup. Miller also took fourth in the long jump.

The Warriors next stop is the 2010 PSAC Championships held at Edinboro College the weekend of Feb. 27 and 28.
