On Saturday, the East Stroudsburg Warriors’ ice hockey team took on Rutgers-Camden. The Warriors got off to a slow start in the fist period and let Rutgers skate all over them.
Three minutes into the game, Rutgers capitalized on a turnover and put the puck past the Warriors goaltender. A couple minutes later, Rutgers got on the board again by scoring on a good shot from the slot.

At the ten-minute mark of the first period, Rutgers took advantage of a power play. The Warriors battled for the puck in the corner but Rutgers came out with the possession. The Rutgers’ player took it in front of the net and put it past the goalie.

At the end of the first period, the Warriors did outshoot Rutgers 14-6 however; the scoreboard did not show it. 0-3.

As the second period got underway, the Warriors came out with a little edge. Junior Nick Londino got ESU on the board after Ryan Malandra won a faceoff. Londino walked the circle and put a wrist shot past the Rutgers’ goalie.

Rutgers did answer ESU’s goal very quickly with another power play. The Warriors faced a five versus three penalty kill and Rutgers took advantage with a slap shot from the point.

Five minutes later, sophomore Matt Denega scored the Warriors' second goal of the game capitalizing on a two versus one. Rutgers did answer the goal late in the second period again on another power play goal. At the end of the second period, the shots were 31-14, giving the Warriors have the advantage, at least in shots on goal.

As the third period got underway, the Warriors again took the play to Rutgers. The Warriors got a couple of power plays to start off the third period but could not take advantage. At about the 12 minute mark of the third period, the Warriors got another score on the board from a wrap around shot by senior, Chris Tull.

About three minutes later, good board play by sophomore Tim Brown, who dug the puck out and put it past the Rutgers goalie, made the score five to four.

With about five minutes left in the game, the Warriors tied up the game off of a rebound. Senior Steve Palmer came up with the clutch goal and ESU came back from the three goals deficit.

But with one minute left in the game, Rutgers spoiled the comeback capitalizing on a costly turnover in the neutral zone.

ESU outplayed Rutgers for the final period but fell short. The final shot count was ESU 53 and Rutgers 20. The final score was ESU 5, Rutgers 6.

The Warriors play again next Saturday, at home against Stockton.
