On Feb. 13, the ESU hockey team took on Neumann University in their last regular season game before the playoffs.
The first period played until the last minute, as ESU got on the board first after senior Steve Palmer capitalized on a Neumann turnover. After the first period, the shots were ESU 15 and Neumann 5.
In the second period, Neumann got on the board after an ESU turnover, as the Knights capitalized on a breakaway. Neumann got another quick goal to make the score 2-1.
The lead for the knights would not hold for long as ESU got a goal from junior Bob Mcmillan after freshman Jon Fisher sent him a nice pass from behind the net and Mcmillan put the puck home.
Five minutes later, sophomore Matt Denega picked off a pass in the neutral zone and went on a defenseman as a 2 on 1. Denega sent a pass to Steve Palmer who put the puck in the net. At the end of the second period, the shots were ESU 28 and Neumann 8.
As the third period opened up, ESU added to the onslaught as junior Matt Cook slid a backhand goal past the Neumann goalie.
Three minutes later Cook added another goal by putting a move on a defense man and putting a wrist shot past the goalie.
The sixth goal scored by ESU was by senior Brian Duggan after senior Chris Tull sent a pass to Duggan in the slot.
The final goal of the game was scored by Steve Palmer this being his third goal of the game and got him a hat trick. The final score of the game was ESU 7 Neumann 2.
ESU now heads into the league playoffs on a high note. Their record is now 13 wins and 10 losses.
In the first round ESU played Penn State Berks in order to qualify the playoffs. The Warriors previously beat Berks with a score of 7-0. ESU defeated PSU Berks again on Saturday 14-1.
They qualified for the playoffs and will be playing against Alvernia University on Saturday, Feb. 27.
