Cupid strikes again, and you’ve got a special someone in mind this Valentine’s day. Whether you plan on buying a gift or making one, you want it to be perfect. Here are a few ideas for your guy or gal on this special holiday.

What to Get a Guy:
As a girl, I’ve struggled with this question as I’m sure many others have; what do you get a guy on Valentine’s Day? Although guys may seem tough on the outside, they appreciate sentimental things as much as the rest of us.

This doesn’t mean you can’t buy him that pair of Nike Air Maxes that he has been lusting over. The point is to get him something he will appreciate so he knows you care.

After all the time you have spent with him, you know what he likes. You know what type of music he enjoys; this may be what you have in common. Concert tickets to one of his favorite bands can be the ideal present for your guy. Decide on a few bands he really likes, search the tour dates. Ticketmaster.com lets you pick the price range so even poor college students like us can enjoy a musical event every now and then.

The best part about this is that you can go together. While he’s enjoying the music and the atmosphere you can also enjoy each other’s company.

Maybe he’s just not into music, maybe he’s a sports guy. Whatever he likes, there are usually tickets you can get for all sorts of entertainment.

“It’s so hard to find something for a guy on Valentine’s Day,” says ESU student Gina Rodriguez. Since all guys are different, you have to pay really close attention to what your guy really fancies.

There are plenty of websites that have great gifts at reduced prices. Overstock.com has a whole list of things for both guys and girls. For guys, they have ipods, video games, GPSs and more.

All men love food. As a college student, we don’t get to go out as often as we would like. Your guy would appreciate a meal at his favorite restaurant at your treat. Some restaurants in the area that have been recommended are Ruby Tuesday, Garfield’s, and the Sarah Street Grill. They are all less than 20 minutes from campus and have delicious food.

Some people are traditional and believe that the guy should pay for the dinner. If this is the case, here is where you can get creative. Make a coupon book just for him. You can have a coupon for a meal cooked with love by you. You can get really imaginative with these coupons; a massage, a cuddle session, a movie night with the movie of his choice…etc.

For a more intimate gift, some people have been giving something called a panty-gram. This is when you give someone a pair of panties and leave a fun message on it.

Then there are the always reliable gifts. Homemade goodies are always appreciated. Cookies, cupcakes, and other treats show you care. Decorate them with the toppings of your choice, covering them with hearts and messages.

What to get a Girl:

Since Valentine’s Day is a holiday that revolves around red and pink hearts, some would say it is easier to find a gift for girls than guys. Girls appreciate the roses, chocolate, stuffed animals and jewelry.

There is a Things Remembered at the Stroud Mall. They will engrave any message you want onto a piece of jewelry or a picture frame. Girls love that kind of stuff.

ESU Student Kate Conklin says, “Girls want something heartfelt, they want something original that is just between the two of you.”

Making dinner for your valentine is the best bet this year. It creates a comfortable atmosphere while expressing thoughtfulness.

“If a guy took the time to gather movie stubs from movies we’ve seen and pictures and made a scrapbook, it would mean the world to me, I would look back and think that was a good Valentine’s Day,” says Patrycja Wajda.

Whatever you decide to get your lady, just make sure you add a touch of something homemade, whether it is a card, a letter, or a photo album. Personalized gifts are the way to go.

Sending flowers is a classic romantic move. 1-800 Flowers can bring them to your girlfriend and they offer same day delivery. The prices are reasonable and there are a variety of bouquets. You’re girlfriend will proudly receive her gift at work or in front of her friends and will repay you with a big smooch.

Overstock.com suggests gift baskets, roses, lingerie, and more.
